| The
Hogs were formed by Michael Casey, Kieran Coyne & Noel Coyne
– three cousins from Connemara, a picturesque area
in the west of Ireland. All of them have been
playing music for many years, have worked with various musicians and
performed, individually or as a band, in various pubs, clubs, festivals
and other venues in their homeland as well as all over the world,
including the USA, Russia, China, Canary Islands or Scandinavia.
Lately, they have become increasingly popular in the Czech Republic,
where they recorded a critically acclaimed album "Všem se
nalejvá" ("Everybody’s Gonna Get a Drink") with
the
popular Czech songwriter / accordion player Václav
Koubek.
They had several successful tours there in 2007-8 and appeared on the Czech
TV music show "Noc s Andělem". Their music has been described as
"authentic, raw Irish" and as
"traditional music at its best in high energy". The Hogs name the
Dubliners and the Wolfetones as their major influnces, and especially
the Pogues – Michael even wrote a song (called "Shane") for
and
about his friend, the Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan. |
